Atheist
The video shows the value of critical thinkers, as well as their contributions to our society. And I love the song! As for agnosticism, some say that agnostics are really atheists who havent made up their minds yet. They may be right. I don't think there is much difference, and whatever difference there may be is highly academic. In the end, agnostics, atheists, skeptics, rational thinkers, free thinkers, or what have you, all challenge the notion of god, faith, and religion. And that is a good thing. I am a proud "fool." And this "fool" says that whosoever wrote the Bible is a fool.

I know a christian who does not believe in Hell because it would be unfair. She believes that those who don't go to Heaven simply cease to exist. Yes, ok very well then, it certainly is more humane but I fail to see how it is more fair.

Alan Watts - Work as Play
A nice philosophical point of view about work as a play. Alan watts seems to pop on my finds, but I think this talk is a little more rational then the rest, less Buddhist fanatic.
The Eastern philosophical point-of-view states most of the time that you can't separate anything from anything else, and that we are one (This can also be applied to time, where a man can't step in the same lake twice, because nether are static). I think its a good guideline to understand what he talks about.

A Really Lucky Person
That was sheer humanity at its most raw.
A guy wins a car with a scratch off lottery ticket. So... the media wants to film a recreation. He goes into the same store and buys another scratch off lottery ticket. And wins $250,000 Australian on camera. So emotional, he just about breaks into tears and asks, "Please don't film me.". Awesome moment caught on camera!

On VH-1's Scare Tactics, a PETA activist is brought into an animal testing lab where a little person dressed up like a "rat monster" pounces at him from a cabinet, scaring the living shit out of him. Lots of set-up, but pretty decent as far as practical jokes go.

Linux beauty indeed! Money As Debt
Paul Grignon's 47-minute animated presentation of "Money as Debt" tells in very simple and effective graphic terms what money is and how it is being created. It is an entertaining way to get the message out. The Cowichan Citizens Coalition and its "Duncan Initiative" received high praise from those who previewed it. I recommend it as a painless but hard-hitting educational tool and encourage the widest distribution and use by all groups concerned with the present unsustainable monetary system in Canada and the United States.
The video shows us the benefit of not taking out loans, but it also points out that we should be hoping that everybody else is making loans till their wrists sound like cementmixers. The principles of economics that I thought I understood were based on the thought that the government had control over the monetary system in the economy. But because the banks can make money appear, the applicability of these principles has diminished.
This should be required knowledge to everyone. Now I am tempted to ask why no one does anything about this?

Chris Langan
Interesting to watch but being smart is not necessarily the same as being right. I can understand where he is coming from and how his view of the world has developed from his negative experiences and a desire to do good with his abilities. He is probably smarter than me but I still think he is plain wrong about certain things. I think he overreaches himself to extrapolate that his high intelligence quotient in regards to logical deconstruction and ability to form an internally consistent memeplex upon his own conceptualisation of belief in any way validates said belief-system as being consistent with reality and the fruits of humanity's extelligence. Yes, I know how that sounds but it just had to be said. Everyone is your superior in some aspect Chris, and intelligence is not exactly quantifiably measurable.

Jeff Hawkins: Brain science is about to fundamentally change computing
To date, there hasn't been an overarching theory of how the human brain really works, Jeff Hawkins argues in this compelling talk. That's because we still haven't defined intelligence accurately. But one thing's for sure, he says: The brain isn't like a powerful computer processor. It's more like a memory system that records everything we experience and helps us predict, intelligently, what will happen next. Bringing this new brain science to computer devices will enable powerful new applications -- and it will happen sooner than you think.

Judgment Day - Intelligent Design on Trial
A very good documentary on the Dover Trial. I have to laugh when the religious lie and issue death threats when they are questioned who otherwise pretend to be all about peace and love! The US has some great traits, however, creationism and desperation to cling onto biblical scripture as truth is embarrassing to say the least. It is more dignifying to know that we are an evolved species who share a common ancestor with the great apes, who can use tools, problem solve and use mathematics than to be told (lied to) that we come from dirt off the ground.
People can turn to their religion to try and solve their insecurity over their insignificance, but the moment they try and force it onto susceptible kids is religious extremism in my book. If "Intelligent" Design is being taught in schools as an alternative, I suggest islam/paganism/atheism/Greek mythology be taught in churches, as christianity isn't the only theory right? Anyone who can watch this and think, "Gee, that there Intelligent Design is some swell scientific theory right there!" is entirely beyond help.

Space Based Solar Power - Alternative Energy Solution
This is great. But since when have we had technology that is both 'not imaginary' and has the ability to transfer energy collected from space, at a near loss-less rate to earth without large costs?
The last time a wireless energy transfer was recorded was 33 years ago in 1975 at the NASA GPO Goldstone demonstration. And that was enough power to light up some lamps at about a mile away. None of the that takes into account the massive distance, atmospheric resistance or accuracy of a transfer from space to earth surface.

I am an atheist
Personally, I think religion is a state of mass delusion and an evil we can do without who's primary purpose is a tool of the oligarchy to segregate people by ideological beliefs and who's secondary purpose is to violently defend any contradiction or opposition to those beliefs despite claims to be peaceful and/or beneficial. I look forward to when all religions are slowly phased out of human consciousness by the expansion of knowledge...Religion needs to be debated. There is no religion in the world with a core document that is free of self-contradiction, free of scientifically proven falsehoods and/or has for within the entirety of its dogma free of concepts which have withstood the cultural test of time.

Monsanto Patent for a Pig
First it was Merck pharmaceuticals, who tried to patent the tree (sorry, I don't remember the name of the tree, but it is easily researched, as this case actually made it to the news and I think it was Time Magazine) which had been part of Indian culture and valued as a medicinal tree for 4000 years. Most of the farmers of India grew the tree for its extraordinary medicinal properties. Merck applied for a patent on the tree which would prohibit the Indian farmers from ever growing the tree without paying Merck. Fortunately enough people, including the Indian Government complained to the Swiss Court and the patent was denied. So now comes Monsanto, doing precisely the same thing. Only this time they take aim at a domesticated animal, a pig, which farmers have raised since time immemorial. What is to stop them from patenting everything else in the world. As the farmer in this film says, "If they are allowed to get away with this, then, they can also patent air and sun. It is unconscionable. This is why the extreme forms of capitalism have been challenged by communism and socialism in the first place. Greed has been classified by the Bible as a deadly sin for a good reason. These companies need to be put out of business for the savagery of their Crimes Against Humanity in the form of capitalistic practices. Like thieves in the night, they hide their actions and intentions. The news media once again, failed to bring this matter to the attention of the public. The people I have spoken to who agree with this are very defensive about it. Which means they are not entirely convinced of its rightness. Somewhere they know they are criminals who are manipulating the law. The court which granted this patent should be sued by the people of the world, for confused thinking. We will go to war with these criminals who are working against the interests of humanity and we will win. In South America the people have organized against Bechtel, an American firm which tried to buy up the water rights of their town. The mayor and the city council were to have made a profit in kickbacks from Bechtel for their help in securing the water rights. Bechtel brought in it own army to subdue the population and the army murdered several people as they were protesting. In the end, Bechtel was defeated and kicked out of that little town in Peru. But we must look at the kind of criminal thinking which Greed is inspiring in corporations.

Parallel universes may not be merely a fanciful notion of science fiction any more. The expansion of the gravitational singularity at the beginning of our universe might have been a quite common collision of 11th dimensional M-branes onto which we are bound by vibrating strings. I find it quite fascinating and immensely disconcerting at the same time.
What do you think these scientists are attempting to do? If they find a graviton or a sparticle that would be a prediction of M-theory coming true, which would lend it a lot of credibility. They might even be able to create a pocket-universe under controlled conditions in the laboratory.

Why can't all judicial decisions be rendered by the people of Springfield? Oh, what a hilarious judicial system that would be. Very excellent episode of the Simpsons and a happy ending for both sides. I love their accurate portrait of Kent Hovind.

10 Toys that made you Gay
Yeah, I'd have to say when I saw each and every one of these toys advertised I thought they were for sissy boys (or girls, which was more acceptable but probably meant they turned into drama queens instead of just queens).
Actually most of those toys were incredibly short lived... Like they advertised it for 6 months to a year and then they faded out. The "Leon Neon" Stuff especially was a short lived fad.
As for the Oozinator, there's an animated gif out there that makes fun of it perfectly... two of em actually. One with Baloo (the Bear from "The Jungle Book") and the other with Prince Adam/He-Man.

Disposal of Sodium, 1947
A 1947 newsreel of the US government dumping sodium in a lake in Washington and watching it explode. Wow. And you can see men standing around inhaling that stuff. If you've got to get rid of 20000 lbs of highly volatile sodium, the best place to dump it is in a lake.

Something Wicked this way comes
Shocking video! It argues for the case that our sun is in a binary star system and this second sun periodically sweeps comets from the Oort cloud towards the inner solar system. The scary thing is that reports of meteorites and fireballs have been heard frequently lately. This is definitely worth following up.

Namibia - Genocide and the second Reich
It is history that I never knew about until now. My only question is why the producer claims this to be the first genocide of the 20th Century. My understanding has been that the word genocide was originated in the 30's as a way to describe the attempted extermination of Armenians by the Turks.

Human v2.0
It's predicted that by 2029 computer intelligence will equal the power of the human brain. Some believe this will revolutionise humanity - we will be able to download our minds to computers extending our lives indefinitely. Others fear this will lead to oblivion by giving rise to destructive ultra intelligent machines.
One thing they all agree on is that the coming of this moment - and whatever it brings - is inevitable.

Sharon Osbourne on Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin is disgusting. Any woman that supports her is disgusting as well. A woman who is anti-woman has no business being anywhere near legislation that could affect the women in this country. BBC Large Hadron Collider - The Search For The Higgs
On November, 2007 the most complex scientific instrument ever built will be switched on. The Large Hadron Collider promises to recreate the conditions in the early universe. By revisiting the beginning of time, scientists hope to unravel some of the deepest secrets of our Universe. Within these first few moments the building blocks of the Universe were formed. The search for these fundamental particles has occupied scientists for decades but there remains one particle that has stubbornly refused to appear in any experiment. The Higgs Boson is so crucial to our understanding of the Universe that it has been dubbed the God particle. It explains how fundamental particles acquire mass, or as one scientist plainly states: "It is what makes stuff stuff..."
