Richard Dawkins discusses the question of limits on human understanding. As a species we evolved to cope with the world within a particular range of physical dimensions. These determine our common sense view of the world. How far can the plasticity of our brains transcend this limitation? I like the levels at which he thinks. I always like people poking up different, interesting and useful interpretations, reexamining assumptions. Plus some of the things he says work rather well with some recent thinking of mine.

I believe Richard could have made that presentation much more mesmerizing than it was.
The idea of atoms being empty models with our universe, is it possible that we are living inside an atom?? Think about it!
And what makes this dude so special?

In the fact that we are aware of our brains limited capacity to understand the universe and the reality that is exposed to us, or what we choose to utilize this realness for, does that fact expose in some way our ability to expand and evolve beyond our current understanding? The answer must be yes, due to the fact that we are aware of our limitations as far as understanding everything around us, we have the ability to expand our understanding in regards the supposed un-understandable.
no, it is not really possible...
@SidCool,
nonsense, I say. We invented the 'idea' of an atom, so an atom is what we say it is. We can only measure the effect of atoms, since we could never see them with our naked eyes.
Also, we named the thing we live in the 'Universe', so that's what we live in. There's no need to make things more complicated...
We can predict more things by believing that the earth revolves around the sun, but if you don't need that idea in life, than I think it's fine to suggest the sun revolves around the earth.
Actually, why would you think about it at all, unless you're a scientist? So then it's best to just say 'dunno, mate'.
We should all keep in mind though that as the universe presents itself, it could play tricks on us, always... And being 'right' may at any time be superseded by another idea.
I believe the quantum world is constantly playing tricks on us, and may keep doing so, therefor we would never really understand nature (but life, that's another matter).
And what if C-A-T spelled "dog"? Think about it!
he stated something that looks like amazing stuff, but in its roots it's very "blinded" which his is talking about...
atoms are not empty, they are filled with forces... that is why something is hard and something is soft, configuration and forces that bounds them...
I am really sorry but this man simply uses too many words to get to his point - he makes me want to go to sleep - it certainly was jaw-dropping - it made my jaw dropp on my pillow with the rest following. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn!
Also check out TED.com for many hundreds of videos like this.
Actually, Anon, atoms are quite empty; they're really more empty space than anything else. To use a common example, imagine a dime placed in the middle of a football field as the nucleus, and then the farthest rows of seats as the electrons. Everything else is empty space.
The reason things are hard or soft is dependent on the type of bond in the structure and how the bonds are arranged.
lol and I'm sure Dawkins is emmensely humbled and grateful that he "shares" some of "YOUR" views. lol gotta love self important random bloggers lmao
Every word of his speech, every comment written, every link on this blog... all just representing the current state of neurological evolution of the human mind.
All of this meaning we attempt to attach to our surroundings is pure speculative hysteria. Get over it.
Now if it was Richard Hawking instead of Dawkins, that would be interesting.
He just spent 22 minutes speaking about observer bias.
Desperately trying to preach a religion called science?
Richard Dawkins is the greatest.
Check out my blog. Also go to youtube and search for Richard Dawkins. There is a great interview also posted on my blog.
Let me know what you think of my blog.
